For inquiry we have been looking at the inventions and inventors. So we looked at Katy's buggy and the things on a buggy, how buggies have updated through out the past years. Me and my buddy Eshloe  started making a questionnaire to ask parents about there buggy. We had to ask a variety of different questions to make the best buggies. We asked 5 mums 8 questions each and we made it into pie graphs.

book week

For Book week We read Rat burger. For our door we decorated it with Burt's van and I drew big, fat, greasy Burt, and Grace drew Zoe and the class did Rats, Burgers, wheel, the menu and painted the van and wrote 'David Walliams and Rat Burger'. We had this 'Guess the teacher' activity and Samantha and i won the prize for getting the most right (Because we worked together). Some of the activities that we did are the dust cover competition and the warehouse stationary book competition we you design a new cover for them. Mrs Kilkolly gave us some awesome book week tasks. The Best part was when we had to dress up as book week characters (the whole school did it.) My sister Janet dressed up as cat in the hat. And i dressed as a minion.

dance reflection

Dance unit
Walt: perform dances from a variety of cultures.
Walt: use dance vocabulary to describe dance.
Walt: create simple dances using variety of movements from different cultures and present our group dances to others.

what did you learn about how to compose a dance?

We learnt that they are in sequences and it should be simple. Its harder then you think.


What did you learn about performing dances?
its about the tempo and about how enthusiastic you are. Most importantly have fun!!!



What dance or dances did you enjoy the most and why?
i enjoyed the Greek, Zorba, Folk and the Sasa.
i like the Zorba because mostly you start with one person and then more and more join in.
I like the Folk dancing because you start slow and then you go faster and faster.

We have been learning how to do a story mountain. It starts with the scene, characters, build up, problem , resolution and then the ending. we are learning how to do a variety of different ways to do planning.

Broom! Broom! we are off like a rocket to Henderson art centre. when we arrived Aimee led us through this massive building. Guess what! we got to met Andrew hall, the artist that makes fantastic models from junk and unwanted stuff. we got to make our own awesome models out wood, toys, fabric and loads more. Bill and Andrew cut stuff into the size we wanted it. parent helps did the hot glue guns.
READ!!! read this. my model!!! its a clown face on the front and inside there is 4 pouches. you can put pencils and rubbers. I enjoyed making the models and looking at others.

Rapunzel


'Rapunzel' 'Rapunzel' today we got to watch the play house, the people that were acting were Ben, Jane and Jack. they were so funny and the characters were Rapunzel, Simon Cow, Pinocceo,  Jack,  and there were lot more awesome and funny characters. it was about Simon Cow had a auditions and he told Rapunzel to sign a contract, but actually the contract. Rapunzel refused so he got Rapunzel's sister and trapped Rapunzel and stole Rapunzel's voice and Rapunzel's sister lips inked it. i enjoyed it when Rapunzel learnt how to rap.
it was AWESOME!!!

maths challenge!!!

.Today as part of maths week we did an amazing maths challenge.
.Three activities we did were finding out some hidden words with prime numbers, mazes and 3D shapes.
.The most difficult challenge was one of the maze sheets, when we had to hold on to the right hedge and never let go.
. I enjoyed solving out all the problem.

Harrison's theory was ' Hold on to the right hedge as you walk through the maze. Never let go!'
the Hampton Court Maze was built in London 325 years ago.

wearable art

yesterday we completed the accessories and nearly all the dress.

we had difficulty with trying to make a tonne of fans, and trying to fit the belt on.

we found out that making fans all the way up your dress takes forever.

working in a group is awesome because we get our work done quicker and we get more ideas together.

does your outfit reflect your element, Yes because it has the colours red orange and yellow and we drew some flames so it does show the element  FIRE!

the learning helps by telling me that i have to remember what to do and reflect every time.

OMG! guess what i had the weirdest dream that anyone in the entire world can imagine( well not a dream but a plan or idea) i dreamed that i was in the rainbow jungle where everything was rainbow or bright, crazy, colorful, and the best part was there was even some rainbow unicorns.( how funky!)  and i was a unicorn mixed with a panda and my parents were the same except..... more ,....... colorful and they were GIGANTIC. anyone this is how every week day went. " hello crazy kids" that what my alarm said every day how annoying hearing that every morning. i mean who would want to hear that every morning if they were in a horrible mood.    i got changed into dog clothes and went to school on a flying boat and the pilot was a 10 legged tiger with no eyes and brain so it was like a roller coaster ride. whooooaaaa! finally we arrived at the funky fun school! ( weird)   we learned how to dress, draw, and play sports .( awesome right)
after i got home i eat, my lunch. ice cream and waffles and chocolate. Then i sleep on my bed that is actually in a cupboard filled with puffed up pillows, bright colored and different shaped and sized blankets.

. This term we are learning how to write descriptive narratives.
. The purpose of a narrative is to create a story that someone can get a image and you use your imagination.
. My Narrative:
 Deep in a dark misty, murky medieval castle.on a spooky night was a furious dragon, growling like a motor. his lazier beam eyes were full of anger with his nostrils flaring with foggy, misty steam as hr got angrier and more furious. The dragons scales were redder then fire, as his tail was thumping on the ground as loud as thunder.
. I need to develop to add different language features then similes or onomatopoeia.

Squash reflection

In squash my learning was about trying to be able to start and hit the ball with my racquet.
I found out that a squash court is so different from different courts.
I wondered how to play but it is sort of like tennis.
The most difficult art was to hit a ball when it was coming fast.
Now I know that squash is also a fun sport and I know how to play.
My next step is to play in a actual game and be better.
The most fun part was versing other people and learning how to play.

With Mrs McHugh we did art.

 

In Music my learning was about being able to do something with the wooden sticks.

I found out that we could make our own sticks by rolling up newspaper and adding tape around it tightly!

I wondered what we were going to do at music.

The most difficult part was rolling the newspaper tight for the sticks and making up a beat with them.

Now I know what we can do with the sticks.

My next step is to be able to make a beat by my self without help.

The most fun part was making the sticks and figuring out different music's.

lactic turkey

Today is the 30 of June and we went to the lactic turkey. At the lactic turkey trip and did sustainability challenges.
lactic turkey is a group that kids can test there speeds and more. There is a adult per group to shadow us through.

 I enjoyed all the activities and running around, and we got ice cream.

I didn't enjoy not getting a prize.
 I wondered why we versed intermediate students.
I think that they should make the course area a bit smaller because they only gave us a short amount of time.
In my opinion I think it was harder than last year.

I was learning about capacity and what it is.
I wondered what kind of learning or experiences we were going to do.
I found out that when it says 3 L on a milk carton it actually doesn't mean that the volume of the milk carton is 3 L it means that there are 3 L of milk inside the carton.
It was tricky to make sure you put the right amount of water in.
I enjoyed doing the experiment and finding the capacity.
I didn't enjoy getting wet.
We put the watery not in the drain but in the garden.

sports captain trip


Today I went to Swanston school with the sports captain  me, Mackenzie, Matthew and Isiah (Mr Hayden took us). and they use to have hardly any rules like normal school would for example no climbing trees and all that. But Swanston school  has rules like they lets them climb. I think this was a good idea because children don't get bored and learn from what they do.

Swanston school is an amazing school because children learn and have fun at break time. For example they can climb trees and see how high they can go and earn self-confidence, don't wear helmets when riding(you can if you want.) and there has been less bullying because people are to busy having fun and doing what they want that they are to busy to bully.

They use to be like normal school, having rules like no climbing trees, no seniors aloud on the junior parts and they even had 5 or 6 teachers out looking out for kids, but now they only have 2 teachers. Mr Mac, the principal had to persuade students. The hardest to persuade was the teachers, ( especially ladies.) He didn't say students you may bring your bikes to school or can climb trees, they just started to let them like when they saw kids climbing the trees they just turned around like they had a blind eye. So kids started climbing, bringing, building stuff to school. You might think that there would be more injuries but there is less because once the person has done it and got hurt very badly , they would know that they shouldn't do it again or be more careful.

Now we, Torbay school is going to try and persuade the broad so that we can be like Swanston school. I think it would be a good idea cause, now we can learn from our mistakes.

MY GOALS


In reading I am learning about understanding the book at a deeper level and what the author is trying to convey. Extend my vocabulary.

In writing I am learning about editing my work, checking my spelling and punctuation. staying on topic. Extend my ideas using GREAT language features.

In maths I am learning about equivalent fractions and renaming  fractions as decimals and percentages in real life situations.

Dear Diary
Today I did a spelling and writing ICAS. even Eshloe tripped over a chair leg when every one was working.(i was a nervous wreck!)
I did cross county on the 6 June and came first. (so happy.)
we have had 2 learning session of squash and I was queen once.(I even bet Mrs Kilkolly!) anyway me and one of my BFF's played B-Ball and reefed KD = king dodge.

maths intervention week

At maths intervention I was with Mrs Harwood. I learnt that Factor + factor = product and addend + addend=sum. we did a bungee jumping activity and I was in a group of three with me, Eshloe and Samantha. we had three trials and had to get the average, then we plotted it down in a scatter plot. I learnt a lot and enjoyed it. the best part was when I got to make all the bungees and stuff. the worst part was that we couldn't continue because maths intervention week was over. I wish we could have another maths intervention week.

cross country




On June the 6th we did cross country at Long bay beach. this year (2014) we didn't do it on the sand because it was full tide. we choose up to 10th place and the people up to 6th place are going to inter school cross country, the people are Jasmine 1st(me), Janet 2nd (my sister), Beth 3rd, brook 4th, Elly 5th and Samantha 6th (my BFF).

bird lady

On the 8th of April. Sylvia the bird lady came and showed us some birds. More Pork,  Penguin, Cook Petrol,  and more. She told us facts and that we should keep our cat inside when we have a nest in a tree. She says that she use to do it for a job with others but people left and now she's the only one left, and she does it for a living and fun. My favourite bird was the Penguin.

The bird lady came to see us because yellow group was learning about the Para Para tree . Go down for a you tube clip.

Tread lightly caravan

 

This week my learning has been phenomenal. we learnt recycling, reuse, reduce. I found out that eco bulbs are the best bulbs because they use less electricity and lasts longer. I wondered if we were going to learn about electricity or recycling, and why they needed to know our electricity bill. the most difficult part was getting the kettle going on the power bike and trying to reach the pedal. now I know that eco bulbs are the best bulbs to use (and my house is filled with eco bulbs) :). my next step is to try use less electricity and a shorter shower. I enjoyed the power bike activity to try get bulbs working and learning about recycling phones. The fun part was doing the activities and learning about recycling and electricity.

Hi, my name is Jasmine and I am from Korea but live in New Zealand. I go to Torbay school and my teacher is Mrs Kilkolly and Miss Akridge, I am a 10 year old year 6 in room 2.
I play Touch Rugby, Rippa Rugby, Basket Ball, Hockey and I do Swimming 4 times a week.
the instrument I play are Piano and Violin. I have 2 cute dogs called Micky and Esel, and 21 pet fish. I have a twin sister called Janet that goes to Torbay school and is in room 4, that's a year 6.
